The SIU Alumni Association is the largest and oldest organization at SIU, but has enjoyed its greatest period of growth in the last 20 years. The Association was established in 1896 by a group of students who wanted to continue their involvement with their alma mater after graduation.

The Associationís first recorded meeting was held on June 10, 1896 at Southern Illinois Normal University, the original name of our alma mater.

Fifty years later, on July 23, 1954, the organization was incorporated and its legal name became: "The Association of Alumni, Former Students, and Friends of Southern Illinois University, Incorporated." At this meeting, it was agreed the working name would be "SIU Alumni Association."

By joining the SIU Alumni Association, you'll become part of a loyal group of alumni, students, and friends of Southern Illinois University. A group that dates back to 1896! Thousands of Salukis support Southern and the SIU Alumni Association through dues-based membership.

As of December 2008, more than 11,853 alumni have graduated from the College of Mass Communication and Media Arts.
