MCMA's Coordinator of Internships and Placement, Krissi Geary-Boehm teaches professional development workshops during the fall and spring semesters that help students develop resumes, cover letters, and other necessary materials as well as help them with other professional development skills. MCMA's Professional Development Workshops

MCMA offers workshops, for MCMA students, which offer practical tips on resume development, cover letter writing, interviewing, and other professional development skills. The following workshops will be held in COMM-1032 (the dean's conference room):

COVER LETTERS WORKSHOP: Wednesday, September 16th, 6:00 p.m. ONLINE PROFESSIONAL IMAGE WORKSHOP: Tuesday, September 29th, 6:00 p.m. RESUME / COVER LETTERS WORKSHOP: Tuesday, October 6th, 6:00 p.m. PROFESSIONAL EMAIL ETIQUETTE WORKSHOP: Wednesday, October 14th, 6:00 p.m. STUDIES PROGRAMS INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS: Monday, October 26th, 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 9th, 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 17th, 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 3rd, 5:00 p.m.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT "BOOT CAMP": Saturday, October 24th, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. This Professional Development "Boot Camp" will cover Advanced Resumes, Cover Letters, and Effective Job Search Strategies. A minimum of ten students must sign up in advance for the workshop to be held. EFFECTIVE JOB SEARCH STRATEGIES WORKSHOP: Wednesday, November 4th, 6:00 p.m. INTERVIEWING WORKSHOP: Wednesday, November 18th, 6:00 p.m. JOB OFFERS AND SALARY NEGOTIATIONS WORKSHOP: Wednesday, December 9th, 6:00 p.m.

 

All students need a solid resume and cover letter for internship and job searches. These materials are also required to apply for the Extern Program and MCMA's summer internship programs (Hollywood Studies, Chicago Studies, New York Studies, Nashville Studies, and D.C. Studies). The deadline for applying to the Extern Program will be in mid-November, and the deadline for applying for the Studies Programs will be Friday, January 29, 2010.
