News - WSIU Public Broadcasting
WSIU TV and WSIU Radio are pleased to offer a variety of programs over the next week to celebrate freedom and the Fourth of July holiday, beginning with a one-hour special tomorrow night from the TV series "Wide Angle," which will highlight the dangers North Koreans face in their brave efforts to escape through China to freedom in South Korea.
We will salute our nation's veterans in the TV program "America's Veterans: A Musical Tribute" this Thursday night, and on Saturday night, you'll enjoy "A Capitol Fourth 2009," an annual holiday special from the West Lawn of the White House, which will be carried live on WSIU TV and WSIU Radio. Our holiday celebration extends to Sunday, July 5 with a trip to Lake Wobegon for "Great Performances: Garrison Keillor's Independence Day Special: A Prairie Home Companion at Tanglewood," featuring special guests The Wailin' Jennys and Meryl Streep.
Finally, we'll wrap up the weekend on Sunday night with an in-depth look at the history of and people behind Washington, D.C.'s annual July 4 fireworks display in the half-hour TV special, "3, 2, 1 Fireworks."
